Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai reflected on a challenging evening after the Reds were edged out 3-2 by Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium on Monday night. The thrilling Premier League encounter saw momentum swing multiple times before the Seagulls secured a hard-fought victory.

Speaking after the game, Szoboszlai praised Brighton’s resilience, saying:

“It was really tough. They never gave us an easy moment throughout the match. Credit to them for the way they played.”

How the Match Unfolded

The game started with early promise for Arne Slot’s side, as Harvey Elliott opened the scoring within the first 10 minutes, giving Liverpool an ideal start.

However, Brighton struck back before halftime through Yasin Ayari, who found the net shortly after the 30-minute mark, drawing the score level.

Just before the whistle, Szoboszlai himself restored the Reds’ lead with a well-taken finish in stoppage time — his effort giving Liverpool a 2-1 advantage heading into the break.

Second-Half Turnaround for Brighton

The hosts came out with renewed energy in the second half, and the game took another dramatic twist as Kaoru Mitoma — introduced from the bench — found the equaliser. Soon after, Jack Hinshelwood, another substitute, netted the decisive goal to complete the comeback and deliver all three points to Brighton.

Despite Liverpool’s attacking flair and dominant possession, they couldn’t find a way past a determined Brighton defence late in the game.

Slot’s Reds Continue Inconsistency on the Road

The loss continues a worrying trend of inconsistency for Liverpool away from home this season. With title ambitions still mathematically possible, results like this could prove costly.

Liverpool now turn their focus to their final league fixture, where they’ll hope to bounce back and finish the season on a high.
