Morten Hjulmand Manchester United transfer rumours addressed

Morten Hjulmand has broken his silence on rumours linking him with a move to Manchester United during the summer transfer window. The Sporting CP captain was repeatedly mentioned as a potential midfield target, but he has now addressed the speculation while on international duty with Denmark.

Manchester Unitedโ€™s summer window saw dramatic changes, with several senior players heading for the exit. The so-called โ€œbomb squadโ€ of Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, and Tyrell Malacia was dismantled, with only Malacia staying. Rasmus Hรธjlund also departed on loan to Serie A side Napoli.

In response to these exits, United brought in fresh faces across the pitch. Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko, Diego Leon, and goalkeeper Senne Lammens all arrived to bolster Ruben Amorimโ€™s squad. However, midfield remained untouched, despite frequent rumours linking the club with reinforcements in that area.

United reportedly considered midfield additions but ultimately chose to stick with their current options. Among the names linked were Brightonโ€™s Carlos Baleba and Sporting CPโ€™s influential captain Morten Hjulmand. The Dane became a regular subject of transfer speculation, especially since Amorimโ€™s move from Sporting to Old Trafford last November heightened the connection.

Speaking to Portuguese outlet Ojogo, Hjulmand downplayed the rumours. He said: โ€œTheyโ€™re talking about rumours, but I donโ€™t identify with them.โ€ The midfielder stressed his focus was on returning to preseason with Sporting and regaining his fitness after the summer break.

Hjulmand further reflected on Sportingโ€™s performances, saying: โ€œWe had some very good games, in which we played at a good level, even though we lost at the weekend in a derby against FC Porto. Weโ€™re not in first place right now, and we want to get back there.โ€

The Dane made it clear he would not delve into the transfer talk, stating: โ€œThatโ€™s what I can conclude from the last few weeks. I donโ€™t want to say if I had to deal with anything specific.โ€ His comments suggest a commitment to Sporting and little appetite for distractions during the season.

For now, it appears that Hjulmand will remain a central figure in Lisbon, with his leadership valued by the Portuguese champions. While Manchester United continue to reshape under Amorim, the midfield question lingers, but Hjulmand has firmly distanced himself from speculation of an Old Trafford move.
