Andre Onana Makes Demand to Manchester United

Andre Onana has reportedly issued a significant demand to Manchester United, raising fresh uncertainty about his future at Old Trafford. The goalkeeper’s stance has added further intrigue to what has already been a turbulent summer transfer window for the Red Devils.

Manchester United’s Busy Transfer Window

Manchester United’s summer business was one of the most dramatic in recent years. Ruben Amorim reshaped his squad with high-profile arrivals including Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon, as the club invested more than £215 million to strengthen multiple positions. The forward line was reinforced, while defensive depth was secured with key signings.

Goalkeeper Position Under the Microscope

While United’s outfield signings drew headlines, the most scrutinized position remained in goal. Questions persisted about who would be trusted to lead the line, with Onana facing increased competition from Altay Bayindir. Fans noticed subtle shifts in selection during early games, sparking debates about Amorim’s long-term goalkeeping plans.

Onana’s Injury Concerns

Onana’s pre-season return did not go smoothly. He reported a hamstring issue on his first day back, which escalated to a full injury the following day. That setback opened the door for Bayindir, who started the opening three Premier League matches. Veteran Tom Heaton was included on the bench, while Onana was left out despite claiming fitness.

Seeds of Doubt from Last Season

Speculation over Onana’s place began at the end of last season. He was dropped for the final league game against Aston Villa after a disappointing performance in the Europa League final. Bayindir’s inclusion fueled suggestions that Amorim was considering a reshuffle in goal.

Onana Requests New Contract

According to The Athletic, Onana has now made a formal request for a new Manchester United contract. His frustration stems from the 25% wage cut triggered by United’s failure to qualify for the Champions League. The situation reportedly displeased Amorim, complicating matters further.

Transfer Links and United’s Response

While AS Monaco expressed tentative interest in Onana, they pulled back after being informed United valued the keeper at a minimum of £30 million. Following the Fulham match, his representatives once again explored exit options but were told he remains part of Amorim’s plans.

United Secure Goalkeeping Reinforcement

Despite this, United moved strategically by signing Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp. The move ensured additional depth in goal and suggested the club is already preparing for the long-term beyond Onana.
