Chaos at Liverpool FC Parade: Car Rams Into Crowd, Dozens Injured

Celebrations Turned to Horror
A joyful Liverpool FC victory parade turned terrifying when a car ploughed into crowds on Water Street. Witnesses described the moment as “horrendous,” with dozens left injured after the unexpected attack disrupted festivities.

Vehicle Strikes at Peak Moment
Just after 18:00 BST, as fans celebrated the Premier League win, a dark blue car drove into packed crowds. Police confirmed numerous injuries, with 27 hospitalised, including two people seriously hurt during the shocking incident.

Eyewitness: ‘It Missed Us by Inches’
BBC reporter Matt Cole said the car narrowly missed his family. They had just enjoyed fireworks when screams erupted. He described grabbing his daughter and leaping aside as the vehicle tore through the dense crowd.

Driver Showed No Signs of Stopping
Cole noted the car showed “no intention” of slowing, describing its speed as at least 20mph. He credited a passing ambulance as a “natural barrier” that may have prevented more severe injuries in the crowd.

Onlookers Tried to Intervene
As the car passed, a group of men chased it, banging on its sides and throwing objects. Cole noted the vehicle’s rear windshield was “completely smashed in” during the frenzied moment of chaos and confusion.

Massive Emergency Response Mobilised
Emergency services rushed to the scene. Cole witnessed armed officers arriving with rifles and medical gear. Ambulances and police vans converged swiftly as the situation escalated and the seriousness of the incident became clear.

Suspect in Custody
Police arrested a 53-year-old white British man from Liverpool, believed to be the driver. Authorities are investigating the motive as they continue to treat the incident as a serious public safety concern.

Shock and Adrenaline in the Aftermath

Cole said his first thought was that the driver was impatient. But screams and speed changed that assumption. “Adrenaline very much just kicks in,” he said, reflecting on the surreal and frightening ordeal.

Dozens Left Injured
In total, 47 people were treated for injuries. The community is reeling from what was supposed to be a celebratory evening. Authorities urge anyone with footage or information to come forward as investigations continue.
