Mason Greenwood England rumours dismissed by Tuchel
England manager Thomas Tuchel has dismissed speculation linking former Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood with a return to the national team.
Greenwood, now playing for Olympique de Marseille, has impressed at the start of the season with one goal and two assists in his opening three appearances. The 22-year-old has been in strong form since joining the French side permanently in 2024, where he has scored 23 goals in 39 appearances across all competitions.
The forward, who made his only senior England appearance in August 2020 against Iceland, remains eligible to switch allegiance to Jamaica through his grandfather. With both nations monitoring his progress, Greenwood has yet to make a final decision on his international future.
Speaking ahead of Englandโs World Cup qualifier against Andorra, Tuchel said there had been no discussions with Greenwood or his representatives.
โI have not spoken to him until now. My understanding was that he wants to play for Jamaica, so we didnโt give it another thought. He was not in the mix at the moment and is not in our thoughts for our team,โ Tuchel told BBC Sport.
Meanwhile, Jamaica head coach Steve McClaren confirmed his interest in calling up Greenwood but revealed the striker is not ready to commit.
โHeโs not going to commit at this time to anybody,โ McClaren said. โHe is taking his time over that, so itโs a little bit disappointing. We probably have to be more patient.โ
Greenwoodโs international future remains uncertain, but with Tuchel ruling out an England return for now, a potential switch to Jamaica appears more likely.
