Arne Slot Wins LMA Manager of the Year Amid Liverpool Tragedy
Slot Grateful for Football Community’s Support
Liverpool boss Arne Slot has expressed heartfelt gratitude to the wider football community after a tragic incident at the club’s title parade. His message came as he was named Manager of the Year at the League Managers Association (LMA) awards.
50 Injured in Parade Crash Incident
On Monday, a car crashed into crowds during Liverpool’s Premier League title celebrations, injuring around 50 people, including four children. The shocking event cast a shadow over what should have been a celebratory moment for the club and city.
Slot Withdraws From Awards Ceremony
Slot was awarded both the Sir Alex Ferguson Trophy and Premier League Manager of the Year at the LMA’s London ceremony but did not attend. He withdrew in solidarity with those affected by the tragic crash in central Liverpool.
A Difficult But Respectful Decision
“This is not a decision I’ve taken lightly,” Slot stated. “But I believe it’s the right one, considering the seriousness of the situation. My thoughts are with those injured and their families as they recover from this horrific event.”
Chiesa the Only Signing in Title-Winning Season
Slot replaced Jürgen Klopp last summer and brought in just one signing—Federico Chiesa. Despite a quiet transfer window, he led Liverpool to their second-ever Premier League title, finishing 10 points ahead of second-place Arsenal.
Football’s Strength in Comradeship
Slot highlighted football’s ability to unite, saying: “Football is built on rivalry, but also comradeship. In moments like these, we’re reminded of how the game brings people together across clubs and communities during difficult times.”
Praise for Emergency Services and Fans
Slot also paid tribute to emergency responders and supporters. “The authorities acted swiftly, and fans helped each other in an hour of need. Everyone involved deserves the gratitude and respect of the entire footballing world,” he added.
Other LMA Honours Recognize Season’s Best
Chelsea’s Sonia Bompastor was named WSL Manager of the Year after leading her side to an unbeaten season. Leeds’ Daniel Farke, Birmingham’s Chris Davies, and Doncaster’s Grant McCann won managerial honours across the Championship, League One, and League Two.
LMA Hall of Fame Welcomes Legendary Managers
The LMA also inducted five managers into its prestigious Hall of Fame for reaching 1,000 competitive games: David Moyes, Jürgen Klopp, José Mourinho, Ian Holloway, and Mick McCarthy—recognizing their longstanding impact on English football.
